Effectiveness of public infrastructure investments:a simple spatial economic equilibrium model Objectives The aim of this paper is to measure the effectiveness of public infrastructure investments, i.e. their contribution to local growth. To do this we estimate a simple spatial equilibrium model which accounts for the benefits and costs accruing to both Italian households and firms residing in different fixed geographic areas (Nuts 2 level) over the 1989-2000 period.

The author underlines the types and diffusion of contracts between business concerns in international trade and the other reasons that are generating an increasing evolution of the rules and customs deriving from international practice that are known as the lex mercatoria, aiming at checking their impact in relation to contracts that have no elements subject to international regulation and therefore also in domestic law. The first step is (a) an examination of the possibility that the parties entering a contracts internal to the Italian legal system have to refer to the lex mercatoria to regulate certain clauses or groups of clauses in their contracts better or in full. Next (b), the author examines the possibility to refer both entire systems of rules and principles to the lex mercatoria and even (c) the entire system of the lex mercatoria. An examination of concrete cases demonstrates that the current trend in the Italian system is positive for point (a) and negative for points (b) and (c). This trend no longer looks sustainable on the basis of rules and principles (of the domestic public order) coherent with the current phase of evolution of the Italian legal order, such that it should be possible to refer to the lex mercatoria in general, with the sole limit of the principles of domestic public order. The trend common among Italy’s judges at present is to integrate a contract with the rules and principles of the lex mercatoria, or to identify an implicit intention among the contracting parties that is deduced from rules of objective interpretation. In conclusion, the essay attempts to record the significance that a more widespread application of the rules and principles deriving from international commercial practice could have in the evolution and perfection of new rules and principles and in the rationalisation of the old ones.

Le evidenze empiriche disponibili dimostrano che la terapia psicodinamica (PDT) o psicoanalitica è efficace. La "dimensione del risultato" (effect size) della terapia psicodinamica è grande almeno quanto quella di altre psicoterapie che sono state attivamente propagandate come "supportate empiricamente" o evidence based. Non solo, i pazienti che trattati con una terapia psicodinamica mantengono i risultati e continuano a migliorare nel tempo dopo la fine della terapia. È stato anche dimostrato empiricamente che le terapie non psicodinamiche possono essere efficaci in parte perché i clinici più esperti utilizzano tecniche che da sempre sono al centro della teoria e della pratica psicodinamiche. La diffusa opinione secondo cui gli approcci psicodinamici non sono efficaci non è in accordo con le ricerche scientifiche disponibili, e può dipendere da una diffusione selettiva dei risultati delle ricerche.

As the results of some previous researches showed (Petrillo et al., 2004) the self-efficacy perceptions (Bandura, 1992) work into a more complex network of variables, which are prominent to health and act as the most important predictors both of the intention to carry out healthy behaviours and of their fulfilment (Schwarzer, 1992). Starting from a presupposition that the quality of life is both an individual and a social matter, this work was aimed at verifying the positive role of the personal and collective efficacy in the adolescence’s health promotion (2003 funds-Regional Law n. 5/02). For this end, we constructed some scales of measurement of personal self-efficacy with reference to different spheres of health’s protection and one scale of measurement of the school efficacy on health. Together with other tools, these scales were proposed to 1107 first and fourth class-students of Naples’s and Neapolitan area’s upper secondary schools. The results here illustrated are pertinent to: 1) the validation both of the new scales of school efficacy in the health promotion, and of the self-efficacy scale related to sexual behaviours, and alcohol and tobacco consumption; 2) the relations among the different perceptions of efficacy, the healthy behaviours and the well-being.

This paper presents an analysis of the efficiency of the University of Venice academic departments. The production of research and teaching is described by two interpretative models that impute in different ways the responsibility for the level of teaching activities. The empirical analysis is performed both with a Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and a Deterministic Frontier Analysis(DFA). The outputs used are indicators of the quantity and the quality of teaching and an indicator of fund raising for research, while the inputs are the budget and staff endowments. In the frontier production function approach the outputs are aggregated by means of a department utility function. The results obtained are quite different for the two interpretative models, both with respect to the level of efficiency and the ranking of departments.
