Virtual teams are at the present definitely inside the modern organizations toolkit to manage and coordinate people. The aim of this paper is to give some introductory elements about what is going on in the social-psychological based literature on this topic. In the first part I am going to give a general definition of what the scientific communities recognize as a virtual team. Following parts will be about virtual teams main issues from a Input-Process-Output framework point of view. The closing part will be a brief presentation of an integrative model to manage the boundary areas, inside and outside their organizations, in which virtual teams are constantly engaged.
