Visioni disincantate della società multietnica e multiculturale (di Giuseppe Scidà) - ABSTRAC: The essay opens with four brief preliminary reflections, related the first one to the very subject of our debate: the "ethnic group"; the following two to a short outline of ethnic relations evolution both in Europe and in the U.S.; the last one to the variegated and heterogeneous reality of immigrated communities. Afterwards, the Author presents a number of typologies of multiethnic and multicultural societies from the major experts of ethnic relations, following with his own perspective of four feasible scenarios of a modern metropolis in which autochthons and ethnic minorities can live together (assimilation, homogenization, communicative differentiation, separation), and ending with some reflections on the tolerance perspective in Italy from institutions, associations and mostly individuals.
