The regulation proposal on food information, presented in January 2008, aims to simplify and clarify the current "scenario" of the food labelling sector through the recasting of different normative proceedings into a single context and through the rationalization, the updating and the explanation of the provisions established by the fundamental directive 2000/13. Many new features have been introduced, both formal and substantial. After analysing the role of information regarding the consumer protection and the free movements of goods, the essay focuses on a first innovative profile introduced by the proposal concerning the connection between consumer protection and the single European market running. The survey reveals how, unlike the current legislation (Dir. 2000/13) - and the rich jurisprudence by the Court of Justice on this topic - the regulation proposal recognizes a greater attention to the consumer protection - in particular to his right to be informed - about the free movements of goods.
