Urban planning is going through a period of crisis and it is therefore necessary to direct efforts towards inventing a new way of understanding the city that is capable of expressing today’s reality, not easily adaptable to the rigidity of administrative constraints. Transformations in the contemporary city show that urban planning cannot create quantity alone; it is about realizing a flexible system that establishes in every area - including the suburbs - a unique and truly liveable "city" flavour.
