This paper aims to explore the main and most distinctive elements of Action- Research in the frame of community psychology. The transformative aims, the methodological rigor, the consideration of the social setting and the full participation of the researcher in the context explored are described as the distinguishing features of the technique. The researcher’s practice of being within the field and his/her reflexivity are often seen as being due to contingent and subjective circumstances, and are not proposed as a specific subject for finalized training and investigation. Instead, through the critical analysis of the researcher’s relationship with the context, this paper points out the importance of his/her active participation, while illustrating the modalities of intervention and highlighting the importance of a continual re-discussion of the study being conducted.
