According to Nicholas S. Timasheff, the invention of the name of the sociology of law was made by an Italian scholar, Dionisio Anzilotti in 1892, who would have created the Italian expression ‘sociologia giuridica’. This is wrong. In fact, the expression ‘sociologia giuridica’ had been already used by Francesco Agnetta Gentile in 1881 and the expression ‘sociologia del diritto’ had been used by Salvatore Ursini, Scuderi in 1890. This paper enumerates the first 21 occurrences of the Italian expressions ‘sociologia giuridica’ and ‘sociologia del diritto’.
