This short paper tackles some aspects of the setting and the relationship of the couple from the point of view of the relational and intersubjective approach. The focus is on the dyadic nature of the couple relationship with its dimension of "functional" bond. This bond is structured in a non-conscious implicit system, that constantly changes and accompanies the becoming of partners. This context provides a framework for the questions of transference and counter-transference, and the possible developing meaning of the couple crisis in the therapeutic setting as passage to new balances and solutions in couple love.

Keywords: Psychoanalytic couple therapy, relational approach, marriage crisis, couple bond function, implicit system of marital dyad, transference in the couple setting
