The best definition of the strategic and organizational model for an asset management company has been extensively debated. This article is aimed at reviewing the possible options in terms of ownership, governance, business model, organization and control structures, by means of the case story of Carige Asset Management SGR, a medium- sized Italian asset management company established in 2003, when the market background had been already characterized by the opportunities and constraints that have widened significantly in recent years.
