Illegal hiring of workers is an old phenomenon in Italian labour market, where it exists since more than half a century. Nevertheless, recent data show new forms of illegal hiring, linked to the increase of immigration. This paper analyses these new forms of illegal hiring and is structured in three parts. The first part explores the main characters of the new illegal hiring, in connection with the immigrant labour market. The second part analyses regulatory techniques developed to prevent and sanction illegal hiring. The third part is dedicated to the various proposals aimed at an effective prevention of the phenomenon.
