The article deals with the reflections on the crisis of education of the political philosopher Marcel Gauchet. By analyzing the transformations of the democratic society and the deepening of the process of individualization, Gauchet points out the widespread negligence for the social formation of the individual. Just if one assumes this fact as a starting point, one can understand the historical changes in the social conditions of children education. Moreover, the article focuses on some specific points of the analysis of Gauchet about the crisis of education, such as the rise of the opposition family/school, the problem of the authority inherent to the educational act and the loss of meaning of knowledge.
