The paper examines the developments of the theory of metaphor in its relations with the second - and third - generation in cognitive science. It focuses on metaphor as an essential moment in the making of science, pointing at the difference of metaphorical processes in scientific language from those of ordinary language or rhetoric and literary discourse.
