Epistemic changes and the related debate we are currently witnessing are clear signs of intellectual turmoil. The uncertainty typical of complex phenomena invites a humble look at the phenomena that we wish to know and explain. The thirst for knowledge that often possesses us when we search for the truth collides with the need to avoid reductionistic traps. In psychoanalysis what is currently collapsing is not only a metapsychological model but also an idea of therapy. The Boston Group has been reflecting on these issues for several years and Harrison’s article follows in its steps. But it is a formidable task because we need to reconcile the specific psychoanalytic with the recent discoveries concerning the sub-symbolic universe attempting an integration capable of avoiding deathly parcellizations and year old dualisms.
