The author focuses on the sociological implications on environmental sustainability in order to find a path to the individuation of characterizing aspects of a sustainability sociology that must be declined in ecological and environmental terms. In particular, the subjectobject cognitive dualism in constructivism is considered in a "rehabilitation of the natural" perspective where the dependence of men on nature is acknowledged. The importance of the debate on "well-being without growth" and "happiness beyond GDP" is also stressed as well as their connections to glocalism and re-localization. Finally, a reflection on community and neighborhood in an urban compaction perspective is made as well as a reflection on the need to think about the limits of a bottom-up approach to environmental sustainability, where a key to the reading and analysis that is also normative and systemic must be recovered.

Keywords: Environmental Sustainability, Community, Participation, Global Society, Glocalism, System.
