The relationship with dogs in everyday life and during psychotherapy is examined from the point of view that they are our companions in life. This discussion takes into account the psychological research on the non-human environment, on the attachment theory and processes of communication and relationship. To analyze the participation of the dog in psychotherapy analogical methods are discussed; the integration between primary and secondary processes and function "as if" that takes us back to the game. In this sense several case studies are described that highlighting the role played by the dog as a "therapeutic object" or "floating object". The encounter with the dog, vibrates our emotions, taking us back to the analogical language, leading to "games" and procedures that are metaphors for relationships and contribute to the change in psychotherapy.
