In the light of the most important research about newsmaking, some authors underlined the aspects that make "social news" marginal on monomedial national mainstream newsmedia: first of all, the way the journalistic organizations select sources; secondary, the criteria of newsworthiness. The goal of the author is to understand if the Italian nonprofit area - as a source of "social news" - has ever taken these two aspects into account. In particular, the essay describes the actions of Redattore Sociale - the most important press agency in Italy engaged on social issues. Secondary, it describes some aspects of the orientation of Redattore Sociale that, according with the existing literature, could require a further inquiry.

Keywords: Keywords: redattore sociale, newsworthiness, newsmaking, nonprofit, voluntary.
