The essay, using data from national surveys conducted since 2009 by the Observatory on household consumption at the University of Verona - SWG, analyzes the evolution of purchase strategies carried out by italian families. The interest of the analysis arises from two factors: the particular and critical transformation of Italian economy and society, characterized by strong restriction of the economic resources available to families, and the restratification in terms of capacity and purchasing strategy of the families themselves. The data analysis has led to the construction of three groups of families divided by ability and purchasing strategy, and the paper analyzes the transformation of these three clusters from 2009 to 2012, highlighting the progressive re-stratification in progress in Italian society.
