The article reconstructs a particular moment of the long conflict that led to the cession, by the Holy See, of some fiefs considered a direct dominion of the Apostolic Chamber, included in the Piedmontese territory, in favor of the Sabaudian Crown. Analyzing the events of the early years of the 18th Century, the text compares diplomatic management of the crisis with the practice of officials locally acted to claim the assignment of those villages to the two courts, on one hand arranging their political actions with the local feudal families and the communities, and on the other, reconstructing the history of those "places" with researches in central and local archives, and drafting historical-juridical writings.
