Transgenerational transmission of secrets and bannings, linked to a failed mourning of object and narcissistic losses, leads to more or less subtle or full-blown pathologies, that in-volve the subject’s representation functions and ability to investment. Two different per-spective are adopted in order to analyse these situations: the institution of a secret and its effects on the first and second generations, through the clinical work with an adolescent’s family; and the results and developments in subsequent generations, as prompted by an ani-mated film.

Keywords: Death drive, disinvestment, mourning, no-thinking, origins, secret.
