The article analyzes the scientific debate dealing with the end of the Christian Democratic party. It reconstructs: the main phases of the debate and their peculiarities; the most relevant issues taken into consideration by scholars; the most important interpretations elaborated by historians. Finally, the author suggests some concluding remarks and proposes new perspectives of research.
