The essay reconstructs the scientific and professional story of Giovan Pietro Grimaldi, student, professor, dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Rector of the University of Catania (between 1905 and 1909). Through his biography it is possible to reconstruct the ascent of the scientific disciplines in Catania between the end of the 1800s and the beginning of the 1900s, but it is possible also to study the relaunch of the University's experimental structures and the attempt to transform Catania into the center of an international research network.

Keywords: Grimaldi, Physics, Sciences, structures, research.
