The paper describes a methodological approach based on the integration of ecosystem services as a support to the territorial process for the construction of the local Town plan (pgt) of Romano di Lombardia. The approach focuses on the role that these services play in each phase of the planning/Strategic Environmental Assessment (sea) process (scoping, impacts assessment, definition of implementation criteria). Ecosystem services have been identified by processing spatial data from open databases and by building original maps in collaboration with citizens. The analysis of the state of ecosystem services and the estimation of how the pgt implementation can impact on their provisions can be recognized as the main sea contributions to the sustainability of planning choices.
