This paper explores ten ways of thinking about personal differences, with emphasis on the clinical implications of each angle of vision on individuality. Each individual is born with a different in-born temperament, the causes of which are not simply genetic but also environmental. Attachment patterns and their consequent behaviors in relationship are explored. Attention is drawn on individual defensive organization, implicit cognitions, affective patterns, the organizing motivational system, individualistic versus communal orientation, internalized object relations, inner working models, and schemas as clinically valuable ways of understanding each person’s unique psychic life.
