An impromptu encounter with a teenager who had undergone psychotherapy during her dramatic childhood raises a range of questions about pain and various explorations of Freud’s work, focusing on a fundamental question: why do we spend our lives sharing experiences of pain through psychoanalysis, from the traumatic experience of childhood to its many transformations and vicissitudes throughout life, up to the “late” age? The author does not hypothesize a single answer, but rather a thousand possible paths, almost like pieces of a mosaic that can be assembled and disassembled into an infinite number of figures, some more clearly defined, others barely discernible but no less rich in propulsive stimuli. The work seeks to intertwine insights born from clinical experience and the contributions of the great masters, Freud in particular. With his original theory of pain as a traumatic intrusion, revisited in various essays throughout his life, he opened paths of thought later developed by Winnicott and Bion.
Keywords: anxiety, physical pain – psychic pain, mourning, child psychotherapy, pleasure, pseudo-drive.
