The paper debates the factors sub-standing the effectiveness of the Italian new legislation tool named "Contratto di rete". The Contratto di rete, encouraging formal network agreements among companies finalized to their growth in innovation and competitiveness, is particularly adapt to support Italian SMEs as they are traditionally used to develop by relational forms of growth based on tight networks of relationships with market counterparts. The article analyses how the Contratto di rete can help to overcome the problems affecting the company acting in business network contexts. The article also suggests some issues to pay attention to when a company stipulates a Contratto di rete.
