The performance evaluation is facing the need for a new epistemology coming out from the recognition of the importance of relationship, language and sensemaking in the management practices. This article takes the "linguistic turn" in the HRM as its point of departure and discusses the implications for a new conceptual framework in evaluation practices. The article develops some ideas about the meaning of the evaluation practices on the assumption that evaluation is a relationship contextual process first, rather than being just a formal mechanism to measure actual performance against an expected performance.
Keywords: Performance evaluation, human resource management, linguistic turn, sensemaking
