At the beginning of pandemic period, there was a strong polarization of health resources and professionals towards the prevention of the rapid spread of SARSCoV- 2, reducing attention to chronic diseases and cancer treatment, compromising therapeutic continuity and the outcomes of treatments. In this thrilling and overwhelming scenario, the IFO remained anchored to its mission of providing specialist care to cancer, dermatological and rare disease patients. Here, a summary of the strategic decisions and plans developed to reduce the spread of the virus is presented, while efforts were made to bring the hospital closer to the patients. The authors hope that this experience could serve as a resource for informing models of assistance in the event of future epidemiological outbreaks.
