Roberto Gualtieri examines Amendola’s role in the PCI’s leadership. He was a typical figure of the partito nuovo more than a heretical liberal-communist, supporting a reformist approach and practice, which deeply rooted the PCI in Italian society. But Amendola never abandoned his conviction that the USSR was fundamental to counterbalance the power of the USA in the international system and that the link with Moscow would deter radicalism in the party.
