The paper deals with the theme of young people’s transition to work. It aims at analysing new dualisms produced in labour market. Actually the traditional use of couples of analytically opposite concepts (employed/unemployed, student/worker, steady/flexible) is no more able to explain the plurality of conditions and the doubleness of states which characterize the same individual. From an interpretative point of view, it is also important to consider new phenomena of diversification. From a methodological point of view, it is necessary to shift the attention from the comparison between states and between positions to the analysis of dynamics, and to consider young people’s experience in working transitions. Analyses are related to datas processed in collaboration with the Consorzio interuniversitario Almalaurea. For overall results see Franchi (2005). Achievement of stability is often associated with less coherence with working position, while longer paths seem to lead to more consistent positions with degree. Finally entry time into labour market is not very significant if we do not understand strategies which mark young people’s path to work.
