This section consists of the papers given at a conference (January 22-23th, 2009) on the professional, scientific and human personality of Claudio Donati, a well-known early modern historian who died prematurely in 2008. The articles have been selected as original contributions, in the hope that they will shed light on the personality of an excellent historian whose interests ranged from the relations between Italy and the Habsburg lands to the history of the Enlightenment and to the study of the nobility and of military institutions in the Early Modern period.
