The aim of this study in a cognitive perspective is to test the rhythmic structure perception of short musical excerpts and to find out if there are any differences in the perception of rhythm in musicians and non-musicians. The underlying premise was that the listening mind uses three psychological parameters to recognize rhythm: grouping, accent, and meter. The experimental work developed in the present paper substantiates that these parameters are elaborated in a different way by musically experienced and inexperienced subjects.
