Hypnosis can have many applications in the medical field, many of which can improve the quality of diagnostic tests. Endoscopy can represent a field of action of hypnosis, since it is an invasive examination, which requires a certain amount of preparation, psychological support and the active cooperation of the patient. It will be described the technique used and the psychological impact that these exams have on the patient. Then follows a brief description of hypnosis’ use in surgery. There will be also a review of the current literature examining how hypnosis can be used to reduce fear, pain and other important problems of the patient. In conclusion hypnotic techniques that can be used will be described.
