On thebasis of archival sources still completely unexplored, the article proposes an initialreconstruction of the activities of the Information Service in the period 1945 to 1965.This structure, for which the Prime Minister’s office was responsible, played animportant role of political control over the press. It was in line with a long traditionof interference by Italian governments in the media world. Not surprisingly, theInformation Service revisited, at least in part, the methods and staff adopted duringfascism within the Ministry of Popular Culture.
