Daniel Stern’s research about mother-child interaction were well-known to Russian developmental psychologists since the 80s. His ideas helped to better understand the relational dimension between mother and child and client and therapist, and his studies about mutual adjustment and the nature of experience made the process of creating contact more understandable, rich and clear. That made Daniel Stern very close to gestalt psychotherapists and gave them a scientific support to develop their approach. Books and lectures of Daniel Stern were very supportive to Russian gestalt therapists, but outside the gestalt community his ideas were taken as psychoanalytic and not connected to gestalt therapy perspective.
