Homeless people are transient and not univocally-definable. Their characteristics are not easily identifiable quantitatively, due to a lack of data. However, such a deprived population needs to be studied in order to design targeted policy interventions. This article contributes to the scientific literature by referring to a urban case study on more than seven hundred homeless subjects in Ancona, Marche (Central Italy). The profiles of the homeless and their multi-dimensional fragilities are reported and discussed with respect to available national data. The profiles of the homeless are analysed with statistical techniques, showing a strong interaction among their problems and needs.
Keywords: Homeless; Poverty; Social Exclusion; Quantitative Social Statistics; Social Policies.
