Between symbolic and potential space (Winnicott) we can see a dialectic dynamics: the more the potential space persists over time, the more the symbolic space has the possibility to exist and develop itself. In this paper symbolic space and oedipal space are in a similar conceptual level. These last two manifest themselves in the intra-psychic dimension, while the potential space is at the same time intra-psychic and inter-subjective, because of its nature to be always "between". The famous Caravaggio’s canvas, Narcissus, significantly represents this dynamic movement.
