The article investigates the relationship between the Italian Communist Party (Pci) and the partisans prosecuted in Italy during the first Republican decade because of their involvement in the liberation struggle or in episodes of postwar violence. More specifically, the article suggests new interpretative hypotheses about the judicial and extra-judicial assistance supplied to the freedom fighters by the Pci during De Gasperi’s centrism. By analyzing the activity of the Democratic Solidarity Committee (Cdsd), the organization mainly engaged in supporting the partisans under investigation, the article examines the practices adopted to hinder the "trial against Resistance" and discusses the political issues that the defenses engendered within the Pci and the social-communist opposition. The research, while focusing on the national dimension of the judicial prosecution, concentrates on the case-study of the trial held between 1950 and 1957 for the "Oderzo slaughter", a partisan execution of over a hundred members of the Italian social republic armed forces, which occurred between April and May 1945.
