This essay aims to analyze the birth and implementation of physical education from the Casati Law to the Riforma Gentile until the founding of the Italian Sports Center by Catholic Action. Among the pages, in addition to the aspects inherent in school legislation, the main experiences conducted in the school as well as in the field of sports in both the fascist and post-fascist periods are outlined, paying attention to the pedagogical theories of reference as well as to the transformations of the school curriculum and extracurricular educational opportunities. If by the advent of fascism, sport had become a victim of a totalitarian regime that stripped it of its deepest values, reducing it to a means of military training and a mass tool in aimed at bringing out and recognizing the strength of the ruling regime. The contribution concludes with a brief pedagogical reflection that places the body and movement at the center of the person's educational process. A crucial role is attributed here to pedagogy in contributing to a re-evaluation of sport as an educational event, with the intention of bringing out the formative instances of the same, as an activity that exerts a very strong influence on all aspects of the individual, with a view to the integral promotion of the person in society.
