A hundred years after the March on Rome, and throughout 2022, academ-ic institutions, cultural foundations and local authorities created many initi-atives on Fascism. In this essay, after an overview of the main events or-ganized, we will focus on two conferences that took place in the autumn of 2022: the one hosted in Rome by the Gramsci Foundation and the one promoted by the Foundation Ugo Spirito and Renzo De Felice held in Rome and Siena between September and October 2022. These two cultur-al institutions, that have a rich tradition of studies on Fascism, represent-ing different cultural areas, have chosen to invite a large number of speakers, including the most important experts in the history of the fascist period. The aim of the essay is to outline the prevailing interpretations, while at the same time presenting some reflections. The general impres-sion is of a widespread self-referential attitude of Italian historians who seem little interested in confronting those who preceded them by inaugu-rating new methodologies and new lines of research.
