Service Learning (SL) is an educational methodology that integrates academic learning with community service, fostering a practical connection between theory and practice. Based on Dewey’s philosophy, SL emphasizes critical reflection and service as contributions to society, developing professional and transversal skills such as problem-solving and teamwork, while encouraging a comprehensive civic and social perspective. In the specific field of legal studies, it enables students to tackle real-world issues, developing practical knowledge of the law and a strong professional identity, while also promoting a holistic and collaborative view of the legal discipline. The Erasmus+ project “Mobilising university-community resources through SL for the inclusion of migrants/refugees” exemplifies this approach. It aims to address the challenges of social inclusion in Europe through SL, involving universities and local entities in creating interconnected support networks aimed at supporting both migrants and refugees and fostering reflective professional development among university students.
