The review examines Arturo Marzano’s Storia di Gaza (2025) as a significant historiographical intervention in the context of the ongoing crisis following October 7, 2023. While the book successfully restores historical depth to Gaza by adopting a longue durée perspective and documenting the structural violence of Zionist demographic engineering and settler colonialism, it also reveals inherent tensions between the urgency of the present and the attempt to reconstruct a layered past. The analysis critically engages with the book’s reliance on Israeli sources, its ambivalence toward the settlercolonial paradigm, and the risk of teleological reading, ultimately reflecting on the challenges of writing history in times of rupture.
Keywords: Gaza, settler colonialism, historiography, temporality
