In this reply, Otto F. Kernberg selects only few issues among the many that have been raised by the various interventions. The following are some of the themes that have been touched upon: the issue of "democracy" in psychoanalytic training, the need of quality control in order to evaluate the functioning of psychoanalytic training, the relationship between ideology and science in psychoanalysis, efforts for improvements of psychoanalytic training from the inside or the outside of institutions, the importance of scientific research, the problem of analytic neutrality and the originality of Pier Francesco Galli’s definition of neutrality as continuity and consistency of the analyst’s attitude, the selection of candidates for psychoanalytic training, the relationship between a general theory and its applications, and so on.

Keywords: Psychoanalytic education, psychotherapeutic training, confrontation among different psychotherapeutic approaches, relationship between psychoanalytic theory and technique, difference between psychoanalysis and psychotherapy
