This paper presents an interpretation of Sara’s clinical case from the perspective of systemic and relational therapy. In reviewing the case, in order to study more in depth the clinical aspects of families with youths who are socially withdrawn already participating in family therapy programs, special attention was given to the social aspects of the phenomenon by looking at the current trends of families with an analysis of the phenomenon of adolescent in post-modern society. This type of symptom manifested by youths is consequent to an overinvestment of the family and should make us reflect on another system that is strongly in crisis in our postmodern society: the couple. The children of our time experience parents reaching out to them, in a form of abnegation of the marital couple, which is sacrificed on the altar of parenting. In the clinical commentary, attention was given to family therapy as a form of case intervention, with an integrated approach where the peculiarity, compared to other approaches, is related to the father’s summoning and engagement in clinical work. A small space is given to new forms of online therapies. In the conclusions, we wrap up the case offering suggestions and proposals to work on this new form of psychological and relational distress that is becoming increasingly widespread and alarming.
