Video Game Therapy® is an integrated psychological ap- proach, which allows you to undertake a work of emotional containment and cognitive self-regulation, using commercial video games to establish a state of mental balance and well-being in the patient, so as to promote insight and lead him to reflect on some salient aspects of his character and lifestyle that emerge in the game setting. This instrument is particularly versatile, as it is suitable for use with patients of a wide range of ages, not only children or teenagers, but also young adults and adults, and uses some techniques and psychological models already validated. The Video Game Therapy® ap- proach was born in 2019, from an idea of Dr. Francesco Bocci, taking up from the American literature of Anthony Bean’s Geek Therapy, from 2018 as well as from classic psychodrama and literature on storytelling, at a time when the video game was still struggling to be recognized as a potentially therapeutic tool to be used in the clinical field.
