Le emozioni del Risorgimento - The publication of the 22nd Annale of the Storia d’Italia Einaudi, dedicated to the Risorgimento and edited by Alberto Mario Banti and Paul Ginsborg, has led to animated discussion, both in Italy and internationally. The novelty of the approach and the centre of gravity proposed through its choice of themes are unquestionably responsible. The Discussion section, organised by Simonetta Soldani, includes one of the editors of the volume (Banti), Daniela Maldini Chiarito and Paolo Macry, historians who have dedicated a considerable part of their writings to the relationship between the Risorgimento and the construction of the nation, in the light of their own different research themes and interests. A considerable number of female poets, writing on civil and patriotic themes, gain a reputation in Italy in the mid-19th century. They are mostly of bourgeois origin and their writings are wholly within the cultural framework of liberalism.
