In presenting Giorgio Bigatti’s book “Milan: Matrices and metamorphoses of an industrial capital“ (Mimesis, 2024), the contribution is structured in two parts. The first outlines the analytical framework and contents of the book, while the second offers a broader reflection on the relationship between geography and the city, with particular reference to Milan, and more generally on urban geography in Italy and on the significance of monographic books devoted to the country’s major cities.
