A different book for an alternative conception of the mountain: this is the defining feature of “La montagna con altri occhi: ridisegnare le terre alte (Seeing the mountains through different eyes: Redesigning the high lands)”, by the collective ‘Altramontagna’, from which this commentary takes its inspiration. The book is “different” because it is programmatically collective; different because the “redesigning” invoked in the subtitle is also articulated through the sketches which graphically and effectively distill the meaning of the individual chapters; and different because it is part of a “movement”: it has a purpose, outlines a trajectory, and advances a proposal. Its aim is to achieve the greatest possible divergence from stereotypical representations of the mountains and, at the same time, to multiply the perspectives on it, to foster a process of complexification that stands in opposition to widespread simplifications.
