This paper examines the researches of Luciano Gallino in the areas of automation, labour flexibility and job insecurity, developed in more than forty years. Both phenomena have huge impacts on the quality and the quantity of modern jobs, and also – by a more general point of view – on the quality of life of involved workers and of their families: so they need to be object of substantial choices of labour policy, at international and national level.
