Post-Rationalism founded its theory and clinical practice on two fundamental points: the priority of emotions, and the understanding of the world of meanings of the individual in his relational context. Both of these assumptions are rooted in the Attachment Theory (Bowlby, 1969, 1973, 1979, 1980, 1988), via the reformulation of P. Chrittenden (1999, 2008, 2011). The model of cognitive-interpersonal therapy integrates these theoretical assumptions with the description of the the interpersonal social behaviour offered by Lorna S. Benjamin (1974, 1996, 2003).By reflecting on the fundamental aspects of the cognitive-interpersonal model (Cantelmi, 2009; Cantelmi, Toro, Lambiase, 2009; Cantelmi, Lambiase, 2010; Cantelmi, Toro, Lambiase, 2010), this article describes how emotional dysregulation in the relational contexts of development, has become a trans-diagnostic constructcollecting an increasing empirical validation. A validation that arrives many years after the first theorizations of Vittorio Guidano (1987, 1991). Moreover, the articles reports how emotional disregulation is becoming an integral part of modern approaches to psychotherapy.
