This paper analyses the reunification process in Germany, with particu-lar attention on some problematic due to the economic integration of DDR in Federal Germany. The resolution of German question answered to a po-litical issue, but it didn’t consider some important factors of economic inte-gration, as a real evaluation of costs for both Germany and the fair politics to stimulate oriental economy to western levels. In fact, Germany still suf-fers of this process. This paper proposes some reflections on economic order and on the state role in economy, with specific regard on industrial districts and small and medium enterprises. It will consider the international background of unification process, peculiarities of the two German economic-productive systems, the transition costs and the process of catching up of new Laender. Finally, the research of development policies to better the economic situa-tion of DDR and to reduce the too high unemployment rate.
